Some Cobb County homeowners (I was not one them) received a letter from National Deed Services Inc. offering them a certified copy of their deed for $59.50. While this offer from National Deed is not illegal, it’s outrageously priced. Web savvy homeowners can find their deed online (http://www.cobbsuperiorcourtclerk.com/) if their home was purchased after 1977. Or you can go to the Clerk of Superior Court (located on Marietta Square) and request a certified copy of your deed for $2.50 or a non certified copy for $0.50.

I mentioned earlier in my post about the transit station to be built near the new Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center that 5 acres, adjacent to the property, were to be developed into a mixed use commercial development with two towers. Well, today news hit that Grove Street Partners won the bidding war for this property for $12.5 million and plans to bring an intown feel to the area. Here’s some of the plans for this $170 million development:
- A 15 story office building with 350,000 square feet of space
- An 18 story hotel / condo tower with 200 hotel rooms and 38 condo units
- Ground level restaurants and retail
- A tree lined “grand boulevard” leading to the Performing Arts Center
- Pedestrian friendly sidewalks and tables for outdoor eating

The public meeting held this week to determine whether or not Vinings should take steps towards becoming an actual city left questions still unanswered. The main goal was to discuss the option of Vinings governing themselves or remaining under the control of Cobb County officials.
In a vote of 93-88 Vinings residents decided they should take steps to become a city. However, the two hours of bickering and the photo finish with the vote talley left the Vinings Homeowners Association no choice but to delay making this important decision until after more discussion has taken place.
More info to come when it is available.

The Marietta City Council recently approved the master plan for Henry Memorial Park, a multi purpose park surrounded by Henry Drive, Reynolds Street and Wright Street. The plan includes play areas and swings, handicap access, half court basketball, a discovery garden, a multi purpose field, a walking trail, landscaping, a plaza with public art and a shelter.
The park could open as early as fall of 2007.
If you would like to see a larger picture of the park and its proposed layout you can click here.

The Vinings Homeowners Association has set up a public meeting for October 16th to discuss whether or not to start the process of becoming a city. With the recent development of the historic Vinings area, as well as the Cumberland Mall district, many Vinings homeowners are concerned that they have the future of Vinings closer to heart than the Cobb County Commissioners.

I found a new blog today that will be of great interest to many Cobb County residents. WhitlockAvenue.com is a new blog that is dedicated to, obviously enough, Whitlock Avenue and the historic area around Marietta Square. This blog is going to be a great place for news and information about all things Marietta. Take a look at a few interesting posts, and make sure to bookmark their new site.
